Adventures in Kinfer

Session 5
Whose Plot is it, Anyways?

Willie has disappeared. Somehow, between the time that Marcus turned his back on her and when he got into the guard station, she just up and vanished. But that’s the least of the party’s worries right now.

Anora, the little girl that Marcus and Lorya were chasing, explains to Captain Issolta, in charge of the Usquebah guards, that she overheard Marcus and Willie discussing a dead body that they found in the middle of the street. After a quick trip outside to retrieve Lorya, Captain Issolta takes a statement from them about the discovery.

Of course, things are never that straightforward. Issolta needs both the people who found the body to make the report, but with Willie’s whereabouts unknown, such a task seems impossible. So she introduces Marcus and Lorya to three people in one of the station’s cells, and asks if one is Willie. Sadly, it was not to be.

At this point Issolta’s companion, an ‘elf’ named Aust, points out that the two groups seemed destined to meet. After hearing the story of how the party made it to this world, he hints that he knows more about the heart in their dreams than he’s willing to let on.

Apparently, the corpse that Marcus stumbled across earlier belonged to one of Aust’s men, Sellius Glambor. He convinces the group to look into the murder, in exchange for their freedom.

Outside, Ellie is excited to show Shiizuk the wonder’s of magic. She spots some flowers on a grave and, with the aid of a green mist, coaxes them back to life. As the mist fades, she hears a voice, and begins to converse. Marcus is upset by this, and insists that Ellie stops talking to the voice. When she refuses, he tries to forcibly stop her, and once again attracts attention from the city guards. And once again he manages to talk himself out of trouble.

Hopefully the party will manage to avoid killing one another…

Session 4
Spellweaver Street

It’s been one heck of a day. Sunset found our party discussing their next move on the banks of a river. Willie is determined to recover her cane, and Lorya agrees to help, on one condition: Marcus must wear a gag. After hashing out the details of Marcus’ gag-wearing, Lorya strikes off to discover the cane’s location.

During her wanderings, Lorya happens upon a bustling steet. Unlike other parts of the city, the street is lit with floating balls of light. Lorya stops a passerby to get directions to the nearest guard station, and sets off once again.

Meanwhile, Marcus and Lorya strike off on their own. They walk along the banks of the river for a distance, before coming across a deserted part of the city. Night falls as the pair turn down a street. Marcus stumbles in the dark, and stops to see what was in his path. Laying in the middle of the street is a large, cloth-wrapped object, and the two decide to investigate.

Lorya finds a building with the crest that her helpful passerby described (a green shield with a silver tree). The crest adorns the gate of an iron fence surrounding a large two-story building. To the left of the building is a neat series of headstones, separated by a low, stone wall. Lorya creeps to a nearby window, and looks in to an office. Inside is a fair featured male with long ears, and a seated and uniformed female. The two seem to be arguing about the progress on a search for the male’s missing charge. Lorya listens to their argument, and then heads back to the street of lights.

Marcus unwraps his mystery bundle, and uncovers an angularly-featured creature with pointed ears. The body is stiff, and the two notice a blood stain on the abdomen. Marcus sets the body up against a nearby building, and he and Willie flee the scene.

Eventually, they happen across the street of lights, and Marcus is fascinated. He tries to catch one of the lights, and decides to explore one of the shops. The shop he chooses is filled with metal sculptures and scraps. After a bit of a rough introduction, Marcus and Willie learn a bit more about the city from the shopkeeper.

Upon leaving the shop, Marcus and Willie are reunited with Lorya. They begin telling her of the body they found, when they spot a figure running past them. The group takes off in pursuit. The figure leads them on a chase back to the guard station, where it bursts through the front door. Marcus follows close behind.

Session 3
Pixie Pandemonium

After managing to tail Viet for a fair distance, Lorya was approached by a somewhat excitable man. The man hurriedly shoved a box into her arms, promising to return. Overcome by curiosity, Lorya cracks open the box to peer inside. Two pixies escape from the box, and Lorya quickly replaces the cover.

Meanwhile, Willie is being threatened by one very angry cat-person with a rapier. She surrenders, and drops her cane to the ground when instructed to. After some protest, she is lead at sword-point towards the exit to Kellan’s apartment. At this point, Marcus has rifled through the desks in the entryway, and broken one of the decorative vases on the floor. He tries to convince Kellan to return Willie’s cane, but Kellan refuses to talk, insisting only that Marcus leave the apartment.

Eventually Marcus relents, and backs out the door. Outside, he finds that a crowd has formed, attracted by the ruckus. Marcus tries to get the crowd to see that his friend has been attacked, hoping to salvage the situation. During the conversation, a patrol shows up(including the guard Williams) to take Marcus, Willie, and Kellan in for questioning.

Lorya finds her way back to Kellan’s apartment as Kellan and Willie are exiting, with one guard left inside to retrieve Willie’s cane. The group is slowly moving off, when Marcus begins to shout, warning of a nearby enemy. The crowd panics, and chaos ensues.

Lorya notices something crawling up her leg, and stabs it with a handy dagger. Marcus, after spotting the creature, exclaims that Lorya should keep it from escaping, and charges.

At this point, the two previously released pixies, who had reappeared at the start of the riot, drop bags filled with a red pigment over Lorya and Marcus. The pigment rises in a cloud of dust, obscuring the area and causing coughing fits. Lorya quickly ties a piece of cloth around her mouth, releasing the impaled lizard in the process.

After the dust cleared, the party finds themselves in a ruined marketplace, devoid of anyone else: including their prey! The party strikes off, Willie making a brief stop to filch some fruit from the stands, and manages to find the river that divides the city. There they wash off the pigment from their clothes and fruit, before eating and beginning the process of deciding where to go from here.

Session 2
The Gates

Our party made their way to the gates of the city of Usquebah, only to find their way blocked by a disturbance. Marcus convinced the arguing bat-creature (known as a Desmodu) and the guardsman to step aside, while Willie tried to introduce them to the wonders of candy-canes. After somehow convincing the guard that he had not, in fact, been poisoned, some of the candy canes were confiscated and the party was allowed to enter the city. It was off to see the king!

But, alas, such an easy journey was not to be had. A loud explosion, spilling a noxious green smoke, startles the party and sends them running towards danger. At the site of the explosion, our party meets the cat person Kellan, who seems to have some sort of history with Viet. Viet darts off in a huff, while Lorya stealthily follows.

What follows seems a comedy of errors, as the party members try to make the best of their strange situation. After one mistake too many, Kellan turns hostile towards Willie and Marcus, and a fight seems destined to break out…

Next up: A stealthy chase! A reluctant battle! An untimely end?
